DIALOGUE BETWEEN AZERBAIJANI’S GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES AND MEDIA ON AGENDA AGAIN

During the roundtable on 11 July, staged by the President’s executive office, the dialogue between the Azerbaijani government representatives and media will be again on the agenda, the New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) told Trend.

The three-day event has been staged jointly by NAP and the Council of Europe (CE) media department.

The first day will be dedicated to discussions of the results of the initiatives, put forward for staging meeting between the authorities and media representatives, improvement of the legal base for free access to information by the media representatives from the authorities, commitments, arising from the earlier signed Decree of the President on improvement the electoral practice, as well as memorandum on mutual understanding between the representatives of the government and media for staging the dialogue between the sides.

Results of the monitoring, held in regard to the media coverage of the 2003 presidential elections in Azerbaijan, realization of principles of impartiality, equality during the elections in accordance with the European standards, realization of the conduct rules for the Azerbaijani media during coverage the election campaign and other issues will be discussed in the following two days.

During the roundtable speeches of the head of the socio-political department of the NAP, Ali Hassanov, the CE media department official Lee Hubbard, as well as media leaders have been planned. At the workshops on 12 and 13 July, along with the NAP official representative, the report of the deputy head of the OSCE Baku office, Robin Seaword, chairman of the press Council, Aflatun Amashov, editor-in-chief of the “Zerkalo” newspaper, Elchin Shikhli and others are expected.
