В"The latest statements of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev have been positively accepted in the Turkish Republic of the Northern Cyprus and we hope the position of the official Baku will force the Greek community of Cyprus to resume peace negotiations”. Such a statement has been made by the head of the Northern Cyprus Trade Chamber representation office in Azerbaijan, Mustafa Evran on 15 July in his exclusive interview to Trend.

According to Evran, the moves of Azerbaijan on setting up relations with the Northern Cyprus may serve as an example for other states of the world. “ Today the most countries in the world expect compromises exactly from the Greek community of Cyprus, as it was the Greek side that blocked in April 2004 adopting the UNO

Secretary General’s plan to unite the island”, Evran noted, having underlined that Turkish Cypriots are grateful to the head of the Azerbaijani state for such a courageous step.

He also commented on the Reuters agency information on launching the direct air route Baku-Lefkoshu by the В"IMAIRВ" air company starting with 31 July. В"Actually, the company has been holding negotiations on opening the air route over one year. We knew the Azerbaijan’s side wish and supported it in every possible way”, Evran noted.

In conclusion, Evran noted, that initiating close ties between the peoples of Azerbaijan and the Northern Cyprus is a natural process. В"There is nothing surprising in establishing close contacts. Our peoples have common historical roots. Our culture, traditions and the language have also common roots”, Evran said.
