VAFA GULUZADE: RAPPROCHMENT OF AZERBAIJAN WITH NORTHERN CYPRUS WILL NOT AFFECT NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

Rapprochment of Azerbaijan with the Northern Cyprus will not affect the Nagorno-Karabkh conflict settlement, such a statement has been made by the former state advisor on political issues of the President of Azerbaijan, a political scientist Vafa Guluzade during his interview with Trend.

According to him, Azerbaijan must conduct a distinct policy on rapprochment with Turkey, right up till establishing the confederation. In the opinion of Guluzade, collaboration with Ankara will help Azerbaijan “solve many problematic issues”.

Touching upon the apprehensions of the adequate measures from the Greek side on rapprochment with the break-away regime of the Nagorno Karabakh, Guluzade said, that Baku must not look back вЂat such factors’, as cooperation with the fraternal state has a priority and strategic importance. В"Baku needs to adhere to the course of rapprochment with Turkey.

Undoubtedly, a certain political resoluteness is needed for that”, a political analyst noted, underlining, that the apprehension on reaction of any third state in the issue is inappropriate.

Guluzade reminded that Russia once remained indifferent to the occupation of the Azerbaijan’s lands, and it will not back Baku in the future too”.

В"How could it happen, that economically weak Armenia was able to occupy such considerable areas of Azerbaijan?” he asked himself and answered, that the failures of Baku during the military actions in early 90s of the last century are in many respects due to the Russian factor.

“Moscow has not recognized the Armenian occupation of parts of the Azerbaijani territories so far”, Guluzade reminded, noting that no progress has been achieved over the last 10 years during the peace talks, held with the involvement of the Russian side”.

Meanwhile, the former President’s state advisor denied apprehensions on possible aggravation of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU). В"Development of relations with the EU is a long-term prospect”, a political scientist summarized.
