DEPUTY US STATE SECRETARY HELD MEETING WITH HEADS OF POLITICAL PARTIES

The deputy US State Secretary on global issues Paula Dobrianski, being on a visit in Baku, held a meeting with heads of political parties and the elections blocks members of Azerbaijan. At the meeting in the US Embassy, members of the Azadlig block вЂ" chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Ali Kerimli, chairman of the Musavat Party Isa Gambar, the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Sardar Djalaloglu, members of the “New Policy” block, leader of the National Independence Party Etibar Mammadov, head of the public forum “In the name of Azerbaijan” Eldar Namazov, as well as leader of the National Unity Movement Lala Shovket Hadjiyeva, chairman of the Adalyat Party Ilyas Ismaylov and head of the Party for Democratic Reforms, Asim Mollazade were present, Trend reports.

According to Namazov, the major subject of discussions was the forthcoming November parliamentary elections. Exchange of opinions on holding free, fair and democratic elections, factors impeding it, the principles for the electoral committees forming, arranging the public monitoring at the elections and etc. took place.

The information about the election blocks has been presented to Dobrianski at the meeting. According to Namazov, the goal of Dobrianski’s visit to Azerbaijan is support of democratic processes in the country.

Kerimli noted, that Dobriyanski is the US President George Bush administration’s spokeswoman, who implements the policy of the democracy support in the world. He appreciated highly her visit to Azerbaijan on the eve of the parliamentary elections.

According to Kerimli, the purpose of Dobriyanski’s visit to Azerbaijan is support of democratic and free elections in the country. Political parties voiced opinions on the pre-election situation, the activities of political forces and etc.

Chairman of the Adalyat Party Ismaylov noted, that at the meeting he came to the opinion, that the US government seeks for free and fair elections in Azerbaijan and interested in establishing democracy in the country. Demonstration of political will of the government and the opposition parties is needed for that.
