“We do not intend to change Ayaz Mutalibov’s constituency,” Araz Alizada, the co-chairman of the Social-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA), told Trend.

Ex-president Ayaz Mutalibov, the leader of the SDPA, and former state secretary Lala Shovkat, the leader of the National Unity Movement, balloted from the Yasamal election constituency 17 at the last two parliamentary elections. The rivalry of the two opposition leaders over the same election constituency broke the relations between two leaders and their parties.

“We do not discuss the change of the election constituency and ever think about it as we do not see any worthy rival of Mutalibov. But the relations between the SDPA and Liberal Party broken long time ago,” he underlined.

The candidature of Lala Shovkat is supported by Azadlig’ election block. “Nevertheless, the New policy’ election block and the SDPA would cooperate with the Azadlig’ block. The sides will do their best not to clash, propagandize against each other, and to nominate candidates from the same constituencies. New Policy’ and Azadlig’ blocks will hold negotiations in this regard,” Alizade stated.
