Over the first half-year five months of 2005 the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) produced 4472,000 tons of oil from the onshore and offshore fields, or 0.1% less than 2004.

OIl and gas production units (OGPU) lifted 3992,400 tons of oil, or 0.7% down as compared to 2004. In January to June 2005 foreign companies under joint enterprises and operation companies (OC), production of hydrocarbons from the onshore fields with participation of the SOCAR, produced 479,600 tons of oil, 5.5% more than 2004.

In January to June 2005 the total gas production in Azerbaijan made up 2567 million cu m of gas, or 1.8% cu m less than 2004. The OGPUs of SOCAR lifted 1954.1m cu m of gas, or 2.2% down as compared to 2004.

The JVs and OCs produced 54.1 million cu of gas in this period, or 12 million cu m (or 18.2%) down as compared to 2004. the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC) produced 612.9m cu m of associated gas, of 89.2 million cu m (17%) more than 2004. However, there was no serious change in the structure of production.

In January to June 2005 Azerneftyag and Heydar Aliyev oil refinery factories increased production of major oil products as compared to similar period of 2004. Production of petrol increased 8.7%, aviation kerosene вЂ" 18.6%, fuel mazut вЂ" 6%, diesel fuel вЂ" 12.3%, oil bitumen вЂ" 35%, naphta вЂ" 30.3%. The production of lubricants dropped 5.2%.

c) Sale

In June Azerbaijan exported 334,800 tons of oil products against 277,900 tons in 2004 and 167,200 tons exported in June 2005. In January to June Azerbaijan exported 1,000 million ton of oil products against 1,031 million tons in the first quarter of 2004.

Azerneftyanacag oil refinery factory exported 460,100 tons of different types of oil products in January to June of 2005, or 41,500 tons more as compared to January to June of 2004, Trend reports.

In June export of oil products by the Marketing and Export Operations of the SOCAR comprised 107,400 tons, or 40,400 more than 2004 and 39,700 down as compared to May of 2005.

2. Power engineering

Azerenergy produced over 11,570 billion kW/hour of energy in 2004. Hydropower stations produced 1,555 million kW/hour of energy, while the thermo-power stations вЂ" 10.015bn KW/h

In this period, the country imported 113,193 billion kW/h from Russia, 41,394 million kW/h from Iran and 34,492 million kVt/hour from Turkey.

3. Chemical industry

In January to June of 2005 Azerchemya increased production of some chemical products in regard to relevant period of 2004. According to the State Statistics Committee, production of nitrogen grew (+4.8%), chlorine oxide (+69%) and caustic sodium (+10%)
