(ITAR-TASS) вЂ" The marine phase of the international trainings вЂ�Shield of Peace-2005’ starts in Crimea on Wednesday. The attending will be a unit of marines, two landing ships, rescue tug and diving boat of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, four helicopters of the Ukrainian Air Forces, as well as a unit of marines of the United States, a platoon of the Georgian Armed Forces, a unit of the Azerbaijani army. 10 countries will be represented by observers at the marine phase of the training, the press-service of the Ukrainian Military Department said.
The trainings to end on 13 August is aimed at improvement of interaction of headquarters and units of participating countries, practical use of experience obtained at the previous trainings during peacemaking operations, increase mutual understanding and cooperation between militants of different countries.
The traditional trainings �Shield of Peace’ is held by the Land Forces of Ukraine and the United States within the program �Partnership for peace’. The major peculiarity of the trainings in this phase is representation of the Ukrainian Army by units of marines and ships of the Naval Forces.
The first team & headquarter phase of the trainings with participation of 750 servicemen from 22 countries was held in Kiev from 13 to 25 July.
The trainings �Shield of Peace’ is a planned event of the program on the bilateral cooperation between Ukrainian and U.S. Defense Ministries.
