The US Embassy in Azerbaijan disseminated on 10 August the statement on the detainment of the “New idea” (“Yeni Fikir”) Youth Organization leader Ruslan Bashirli, charged with the attempts to the coup and connections with the Armenian special services.
The US Embassy statement notes, the US government expresses hope, the General Prosecutor’s office of Azerbaijan will conduct fair and impartial investigation into the recent allegations raised by the General Prosecutor against the head of the Yeni Fikir organization, Trend reports.
В"Serious allegations should be addressed in the courts, and not in the media”, the Embassy’s statement notes.
They also expect the government of Azerbaijan will pursue fair, transparent elections in November, according to the principles laid out in the Azerbaijani election laws and in the Presidential Decree of May 11 “On improvement of election practice”.
In this context the necessity to condemn unwarranted attacks on individual parties or political figures and allowing all political parties to pursue their election campaigns without harassment or unsubstantiated allegations is stressed.
