Lieutenant General Safar Abiyev, the Azerbaijani Defense Minister, left for Latvia on Monday with a day official visit at the invitation of his Latvian counterpart, Einars Repse.
The visit program envisages a meeting with Repse, as well as the commander-in-chief of the National Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Gaidis Andrejs Zeibots, the Foreign Minister, Artis Pabriks, the chairman of the Seim [parliament], Ingrida Udre, and Latvian state officials.
Along with development of the Azerbaijani-Latvian bilateral cooperation it is also planned to discuss the Euro-Atlantic partnership, NATO’s relations with partner-countries in the Caucasus with special attention to Latvia’s support to South Caucasus states and implementation of local projects.
As a result of talks it is planned to sign an agreement on military cooperation between the two countries.
