PROGRAM OF VISIT TO AZERBIJAN OF UNESCO SECRETARY GENERAL SPECIFIED

The program of the forthcoming 23-26 August visit of the UNESCO Secretary General Koishiro Matsuura to Azerbaijan was specified, the Foundation “Friends of the Azerbaijan’s culture” told Trend.

The UNESCO Secretary General will arrive in Baku on 23 August, in the second half of the day. The official part of the visit will start on 24 August with the laying the wreath to the monument of the former President Heydar Aliyev and visiting the Martyr’s Alley.

At 11.00 a.m. the UNESCO Secretary General will get familiar with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and meet with the Foundation’s President, the Good Will Ambassador, the first lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva.

At 12.00 p.m. Matsuura will take part in the conference “Reforms of Education in Azerbaijan for Sustainable Future”, to be held in Gyulistan Palace.

At 16.00 p.m. the guest will be received by the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. A memorandum on cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO in the educational field will be signed within the meeting.

Further on, the guest will have a culture program: familiarity with the city, architectural and cultural monuments, participating in the stone-laying ceremony of the Centre of Mugam.

On 25 August Matsuura will attend the Gobustan historical reserve, will see the concert of the Azerbaijan’s persons of art. The UNESCO Secretary General will leave the country in the morning of 26 August. Before the departure he will hold briefing on the results of his visit to Azerbaijan.
