вЂњThe key objective of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is to assist Azerbaijan in the protection of human rights and development of democracy,вЂќ Rene van der Linden, the chairman of the PACE, said on Tuesday in meeting with members of the permanent parliamentary commission on
international relationships and interparliamentary bonds and the Azerbaijani parliamentary representatives to the PACE.
According to Linden, now the international community demonstrates serious interests in the parliamentary elections to be held in Azerbaijan in November 2005. В"It is very important for your country. Through holding democratic elections you should prove the fulfillment of CE obligations and your capability for it,вЂќ Linden underlined. The PACE chairman said that during the meeting with the opposition he called on them to take every effort for democratization and protection of human rights. Indeed there are positive movements in your country, but it should be continued,вЂќ he added.
Samad Seyidov, the chairman of the parliamentary commission, said that Azerbaijan observes a constructive approach in the PACE. He voiced his gratitude for assistance delivered by Azerbaijan thus far for the improvement of laws, formation of democratic society and adoption of unbiased position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Seyidov underlined AzerbaijanвЂ™s interests in further development of relationships with the PACE.
