STATEMENTS ON POSTPONEMENT OF A MEETING OF AZERI ARMENIAN FMs REBUFFED

Media reports on the postponement of a meeting between the Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers, Elmar Mammadyarov and Vardan Oskanian, do not correspond to reality, Trend reports in reference to the Radio Liberty.

Tamella Ahmadova, the first secretary of the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moscow, official meeting of the FMs will be held on Wednesday at the recommendation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and at the proposal by the Russian government.

The same time the Armenian Foreign Minister told journalists that he was neither optimist, nor pessimist in connection with the forthcoming meeting and abstained making any commentary in this respect. According to Oskanian, new elements might appear in each stage of talks on the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, RIA-Novosti reports.

"Earlier we noted some progress, but the next talks will show whether we could enhance it on the level of foreign ministers and after the Presidents," Oskanian stressed.

The Minister found difficulty to predict the results of the forthcoming meeting, stating that "there was not any document to discuss.

According to Oskanian, the meeting of FMs was a continuation of the talks between the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. "The Presidents charged them and we work in this direction. There is a definite progress, but I could not say that we finished with this task,” Oskanian said.

In his turn, Azerbaijani FM Mammadyarov stated that in Moscow on Tuesday that the talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan have become intensified over the past year and half.

"It is necessary to continue the dialogue and continue the work. There is a light in talks on Nagorno-Karabakh and we should come to a common ground,’ the Azerbaijani FM said. Besides, on Wednesday it is planned to discuss a format forthcoming meeting of the two leaders under CIS Summit of heads of state, Mammadyarov underlined.
