A total of 328 police employees have been punished during 2002-2004 and first half of 2005, Elchin Beybutov, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Committee against tortures at the Council of Europe, told Trend.
According to Beybutov, the law-breaks included the use of torture by police, illegal arrest and detention of citizens, groundless jailing. В"Based on official data I can say that over 3.5 years 328 police employees have been punished. 4 of them were convicted, 4 detained, 13 made answerable, 48 discharged, 5 demoted in post, 5 demoted in title, 236 issued administrative punishment,В" the law defender noted.
