DELEGATION OF US SENATE WILL DISCUSS IN BAKU ISSUES OF SECURITY COOPERATION ON CASPIAN

The delegation of the US Senate comprised of the chairman of the Senate committee on foreign affairs, a republican Richard Lugar and a member of the leadership of this committee, a democrat Baraka Obama will arrive in Baku on 31 August where they are supposed to discuss a number of issues on the Azerbaijani-American cooperation in the security of the Caspian Sea, as well as the pre-election situation in the country, the American Ambassador Reno Harnish told journalists on 26 August, Trend reports.

В"The forthcoming visit is an integral part of the implementation of the agreement between the governments of the USA and Azerbaijan on cooperation to guard the Caspian Sea”, the American diplomat said.

Reno Harnish noted, during the forthcoming visit exchange of opinions on the increase of production of the energy resources of Azerbaijan will take place. On 31 August, in particular, Lugar and Obama will attend the Sangachal terminal of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

On their visit’s first day the senators will hold a separate meeting with representatives of the Azerbaijani political opposition for discussion of issues related to the forthcoming November elections to the Parliament of Azerbaijan.

On 1 September, Thursday, the American senators will attend the provisional commander center of the marine border forces base of Azerbaijan, where they will be demonstrated the training procedure on marine interception of the vessel, suspected in trafficking of the weapons of mass destruction.

The same day, upon leaving Baku for London, Lugar and Obama will be received by the British Prime Minister Tony Blair. The US Senate delegation returning to Washington is scheduled on 2 September.
