The activities of the Central Elections Commission (CEC) are in n need of commentary and attempts by the opposition parties on its address are groundless, Mazahir Panahov, the chairman of the CEC, told a conference on Elections and Democratic Elections’ held in Baku on Monday.

Commenting on the statement by Isa Gambar, the leader of Musavat, on the falsification of the results of the presidential elections in 2003, Panahov noted that immediately after the official publication of the result of votes he had a meeting with the representatives from the international organizations, who also asserted the legitimacy o the resolution by the CEC chairman.

“The OSCE representatives gave positive estimation to the results of the presidential elections. The October elections were fair and open,” he underscored.

The same time the CEC chairman said that as of 5 September 2130 candidates to MP have been registered in Azerbaijan.

“Except the citizens, which willfully refused from the registration as candidate to the MP, there was not any problem with registration,” Panahov stressed. He also thanked their media for unbiased coverage of the activities of the elections bodies.
