USAID ANNOUNCED SIGNING AGREEMENT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT ON DEVELOPEMNT OF CIVIL SOCIETY IN AZERBAIJAN

The USA Agency for International Development (USAID) announced signing agreement with the non-government organization В"Counterpart International” on implementation of the five-year project for development of the civil society in Azerbaijan in the framework of expanding technical cooperation between Washington and Baku, the report of the USA Embassy in Baku released on 7 September reads, according to Trend.

В"The project’s main goal is to support the government and people of Azerbaijan to develop democratic norms”, the report says.

It is underlined USAID is launching a five-year, $15.5 million project to strengthen civil society organizations’ ability to bring the benefits of economic growth and political pluralism to the Azerbaijani people

The project has a small-grants component of approximately $6 million over five years to support Azerbaijani non-governmental groups. The balance will go to activities such as on-the-job training, in-country and international internships, advisory services, and an improved legal environment.

It should be noted, the head office of the В"Counterpart InternationalВ" is in the USA. And the organization has implemented similar projects in the Central Asia countries and Afghanistan.
