MINISTER OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS APPRECIATED HIGHLY COOPERATION OF UNO SUB-COMMITTEE

The Azerbaijan’s Interior Minister Ramil Usubov chaired at the 40-th session of the UNO sub-committee on illegal drugs trafficking and related issues in the Middle and Near East, which started its work on 12 September.

After electing Usubov chairman at the event, in his first speech he appreciated highly the cooperation of the committee for fighting the illegal drugs trafficking in Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

The Minister noted this cooperation plays a big role in lowering the illegal narcotics trafficking in Azerbaijan. The Minister, speaking on the wide- spread abuse of drugs in the region and its future effect touched also upon the illegal growing of narcotic plants and that increase of production and trafficking endangers the break of stability in the region.

Usubov voiced concern over transferring of dirty money from drugs trafficking for peoples’ kidnapping, people’s trade, terrorism and other crimes of such kind. He noted, for preventing such crimes there is a necessity for strengthening international, regional and sub-regional cooperation.

The minister noted the importance of assuming commitments on mutual legal assistance between the countries, as well as the exchange of information and cooperation in other fields between the transit countries.

It should be noted, officials of the UNO commission on drugs, department on drugs and criminality, delegation of foreign guests from the member states, as well as heads of force bodies of Azerbaijan took part in the sitting.

The session will continue its work till 16 September by the closed plenary sitting and adopting of the important document is expected. News conference on the results of the session is not ruled out.
