ESTONIA EXPECTS EXPLANATIONS FROM AZERBAIJANI AUTHORITIES ON DETAINMENT OF THE ESTONIAN CITIZEN

(BNS) The Estonian Foreign Ministry (FM) applied to the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan with the inquiry on the circumstances for detaining the citizen of Estonia Andrey Popov. The Embassy of Estonia to Turkey, which sphere of activities covers also Azerbaijan applied to the official Baku, the press secretary of the Estonian FM said, Trend reports.

The Embassy has also contacted with Popov himself, who did not mention he had any problems. He assured, everything is in order with him, he is Baku, at the conference, as he had not been expelled from the country.

Earlier activists of the Ukrainian “Pora” Sergey Evtushenko and Andrey Popov were detained at Baku airport. They had been invited to Baku by the oppositional party “Musavat” for participating on 17 September in the work of the international conference on situation in Azerbaijan and Belarus.

Together with two other activists of “Pora” they were detained, however, at the result they were allowed to enter the country, but the passports were withdrawn. from Evtushenko and Popov.

According to the AFP news agency the citizen of Estonia, a lawyer Popov was released followed by interference of the Embassy of the United Kingdom, representing the European Union in Azerbaijan.
