In January to August of 2005 a total of 66 people were made answerable in Azerbaijan for drug crimes. 1558 drug crimes were registered in the country, including 486 cases linked with their sale, the State Commission on fighting with drug addiction and trafficking.
Of them 32 were citizens of Iran, 25 вЂ" Georgia, 2 вЂ" Afghanistan, 5 вЂ" Russia, 1 вЂ" Ukraine and 1 вЂ" Uzbekistan. Over 10kg of different types of drugs were taken in this period.
A total of 1706 drug crimes were registered in the country, including 532 cases linked with their sale.
In this period 216.3kg of drugs and psycho-tropic substances, were taken out by the law-enforcement bodies, including 15.6kg of heroin, 28.8kg of opium, over 19kg of hashish, over 144kg of marihuana, 11,073 tablets and 10 ampoules of psychotropic medicine, 8.8kg of acid anhydride.
Over 396 tons of wild and planted drug plantings were revealed and terminated.
