“On Friday the chairman of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan, Haji Hajiaga Nuri, met with the representative of the OSCE/Office for Democratic Institutes and Human Rights (ODIHR), Edward Sobensberg, Trend reports.
The meeting focused on cancellation of Nuri’s candidature by the Central Elections Commission (CEC) and confirmation of the sentence by the Court of Appeals.
According to Nuri, the talks lasted approximately 3 hours. “I presented them all documents. They promised to take serious measures to restore my candidacy,” Nuri underlined. Baku office of the OSCE regularly sends the data on the activities of the Islamic Party to its Central headquarters based in Vienna.
“On 24 September the Supreme Court will give an answer to appeal on the sentence issued by the Court of Appeals. Unless my rights are rehabilitated, I will have to appeal to the European Court with in 24 hours,” Nuri stressed.
