A gala opening ceremony of the rhythmic gymnastics world championship took place on 3 October 2005 at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex.
The official part of the ceremony was opened by the president of the National Federation of Gymnastics Mehriban Aliyeva. She welcomed all guests and the contest’s participants. She noted the current contest is the high appraisal of the sport in Azerbaijan, which develops rapidly. В"It is the first time that the world championship on the Olympic sports is taking place in Baku, and it is rather symbolic. Gymnastics is not only the sport. It is also a symbol of beauty”, Aliyeva noted. She also thanked the country’s President Ilham Aliyev for the support.
Then the floor was given to the President of the International Federation Bruno Grandi (FIG), who notified of the opening of the contest.
