RENE VAN DER LINDEN HOPES FOR DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS IN AZERBAIJAN

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will send a large number of observers to Azerbaijan for democracy, transparency and justice of the parliamentary elections, the PACE President Rene van Der Linden stated on 4 October 2005 at the meeting with the Azerbaijan’s member of the delegation to PACE, chairman of the Party of Democratic Reforms (PDR), Asim Mollazade.

Linden voiced the hope for holding democratic elections on 6 November, the PDR press service told Trend. В"Taking into consideration the concern in regard to the elections, as well as innumerous requests we try to send as many watchdogs to Azerbaijan from PACE as possible”, he added.

The sides discussed the situation in Belarus and the pre-election situation in Azerbaijan. Asim Mollazade, as the PACE rapporteur on Belarus, reported Linden in detail on the latest processes in the country. He also reported the PACE President on the pre-election situation and the pre-election process problems, the relations between the authorities and opposition in Azerbaijan.
