FORTHCOMING PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS DISCUSSED IN MEETING WITH CE SEC-GEN вЂ" MP SEYIDOV

A meeting between Terry Davis, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, was constructive, and the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation focused on the forthcoming parliamentary elections, special correspondent of Trend reports from quoting Samad Seyidov, the head of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as saying.

According to Seyidov, the Secretary General put forward some proposals for holding transparent, open and democratic elections in Azerbaijan in line with the European standards.

Seyidov noted that the Azerbaijani parliamentary representatives informed the

Secretary General of the work done in Azerbaijan and assured him that the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation and authorities take every effort to hold the parliamentary elections in open, democratic and transparent way.

Seyidov said that final agreement was reached on increase of the number of observers to be dispatched to Azerbaijan. “We want to observations to be open and transparent. One of the major milestones for Azerbaijan and the Council of Europe should be held without any problems,” the head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation said.

Seyidov said that in January the CE Secretary General will draft a report on organization and holding of parliamentary elections.
