The police dispersed the protest actions of the Azadlig election block with the special brutality, the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), reformists, Ali Kerimli told the news conference on 9 October, Trend reports.
According to him, the main venues for attempts to hold actions were Nizami street, Azadlig avenue, the Fountain square, and the Youth square. By the preliminary data, 27 action’s participants got severe injuries, wide-scale arrests took place. Kerimli noted, there were police stations where up to 70 people have been brought. 52 persons from PFPA have been detained.
Kerimli noted the actions of protest scheduled for 16.00 p.m. have been suspended by the instructions of the alliance’s leaders close to 18.00 p.m. The action planned near the Narimanov metro station has been delayed altogether, as there appeared reports on possible provocations.
The PFPA leader reported, despite the action’s participants held only carnations in their hands, the policemen used batons and even iron bars against the protesters.
The chairman of the Liberal Party of Azerbaijan (LPA) Avez Temirhan, stated at the news conference that the LPA members were also involved in the action. He also noted both the LPA members and the representatives of their leaders and even candidates suffered from the violence.
