GROUP OF AZERBAIJAN’S RESCUERS TO WORK IN MOSTLY SUFFERED PAKISTANI CITY BALAKOT

A group of Azerbaijani rescuers and physicians will fulfill their mission in the mostly suffered from the earthquake Pakistani city Balakot, the consul of the Azerbaijan’s Embassy to Pakistan Dashgin Shikyarov told Trend exclusively.

According to him, 20 rescuers and 15 physicians headed to the disaster area by bus only on 12 October despite they arrived in Islamabad on 10 October 2005. The earlier planned dispatch of them on military helicopters was cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

Shikyarov reported the team from Azerbaijan will operate for about a week or 10 days in Balakot along with the partners from Poland and Singapore. He noted, Balakot is the mostly destroyed city in Pakistan and the level of damage is 80%. The city itself
is nearly 4500 meters from the sea level.

Shikyarov also reported, the officials of the Azerbaijan’s Embassy transferred finances to the specially opened by Pakistani President fund for liquidation of the earthquake’s consequences. The Ambassador Eynulla Madatli himself transferred separately $1000 to the fund. Shikyarov also added, the calls and messages of gratitude come to the Embassy from the Pakistani side.
