“RESUMPTION OF NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN EU AND AZERBAIJAN IS PROFITABLE FOR BOTH SIDES,” ARAZ AZIMOV

“Resumption of negotiations between the Europe Union and Azerbaijan is profitable,” Araz Azimov, the Deputy Interior Minister, told journalists on Wednesday, Trend reports.

The diplomat noted that the relations of Azerbaijan with the EU developed on the base of the agreement on partnership and cooperation. Main principal moments of the agreement are mutual recognition, respect for sovereignty, territorial unity and inviolability of borders, as well as establishment of relations on the base of norms and principles of international law.

Azerbaijan was included in the program on policy of new neighborhood by the EC. “Thus, Azerbaijan is integral part of the policy...There are different positions on separate problems, which may cause delays,” he underlined.

“In my opinion, it is just temporary politic difficulty and the EU must be interested to come over it along with Azerbaijan. The political misunderstanding will be come over soon, as Azerbaijan is ready to cooperate with every EU country on the base of norms international law,” he underlined. According to Azimov, no misunderstanding must be on this issue. He voiced hope in urgent resumption of the negotiations with the EU as it has strategic importance.

Touching upon the ties of Azerbaijan with Northern Cyprus, the diplomat reminded that officials in Baku repeatedly stated that the relations related to Azerbaijan’s humanitarian approach to the Cyprus problem. “Besides, they should take into consideration the relations carried out in unofficial level. There was only one flight and it is enough to make any conclusions,” he noted.

The Deputy Interior Minister stated that the EU can use varied approach to the South Caucasus countries theoretically, but it does not serve to the EU interests in the region. Therefore, it is necessary to take into consideration the place, the authority, role and opportunities of Azerbaijan.
