PACE OBSERVATION MISSION MET WITH LEADERS OF RULING AND OPPOSITIONAL PARTIES AND ELECTION BLOCKS

The observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) met on 12 October 2005 with the leaders of the ruling and the oppositional parties, as well as the electoral blocks. The mission members held individual meetings at the CE information centre with the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party executive secretary Ali Ahmedov, then with founders of the New Policy and Azadlig alliances, the leader of the National Unity Movement Lala Shovket and the chairman of the Party of Democratic Reforms (PDR) Asim Mollazade, Trend reports.

At the meeting with the executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmedov the issues of holding the 6 November parliamentary elections and creating equal conditions for all candidates in the pre-election period were discussed.

At the meeting with the Azadlig block representatives the chairman of the Musavat party Isa Gambar, the first deputy of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) Sardar Djalaloglu and the deputy of the National Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) chairman, reformists, Fuad Mustafayev took part. The block’s leaders noted the facts of violation of the freedom of assemblies in Azerbaijan, the use of violence towards mass actions participants and attacks on the DPA residence. They produced photo pictures of people who got injuries at the actions.

At the meeting with the PDR chairman Asim Mollazade the head of the mission Leo Platvoyet, Andres Herkel, Andreas Gross, Hanne Severinsen, Movlut Chavushoglu, Bas Klein, Vladimir Dronov and the representative of the CE General Secretary in Azerbaijan Mats Lindberg took part.
