HAGANI ALIYEV: BAYVA-ENERJI COMPANY DOES NOT INTEND TO ANNUL CONTRACT WITH GOVERNMENT OF AZERBAIJAN

The Bayva-Enerji company declined reports on possible canceling the contract with the government of Azerbaijan. The company has not submitted the document on the contract annulling to the government, the president of Bayva-Enerji Hagani Aliyev told Trend exclusively. "We forward regularly various applications related to our current problems to the Cabinet of Ministers. We raise issues for the Cabinet of Ministers to solve them. They are, mainly, the issues on the contract settlement. However, it is not dwelt upon denouncing of the contract itself”, he said.

On 13 October the head of the PA Consulting project working group McNeill Watkins told journalists, that Bayva-Enerji, an operator of the energy-distribution network Bayva-Qerbenerji (western areas) and Bayva-Jenubenerji (southern areas) submitted a letter to the Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers on canceling the contract with the government on management of the
power distribution networks due to non-fulfillment of the commitments. The PA Consulting renders consulting services to the government of Azerbaijan in the framework of the project “Technical Assistance to Energy Sector of Azerbaijan”, funded by USAID.

According to him, the present situation shows the government is also interested that Barmek Azerbaycan (operator of the power distribution network of Baku and Sumgayit) leave the country. "2 questions arise in this respect: what is the government’s strategic plan in energy sector and who is in charge of this plan’s preparation? In our view, such decisions are not taken by the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Industry and Energy”, he noted.

The advisor of the Minister of Economic Development Kerim Ramazanov told Trend, that the department has not received such a document.

It should be noted, the contract with Bayva-Enerji was concluded by the Ministry of Economic Development and the company operates in Azerbaijan since January 2003.
