Azeri president eager to participate in summit of new democracy in Vilnus

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is going to attend a summit on the state democracy due next year in Vilnus, the Lithuanian President’s Press Office announced.

Commenting on the short-term stop of Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus in Baku on Thursday the Press Office said that the talks with the Azerbaijani President focused on opportunities of implementation of energy projects, cooperation in the sphere of Euro-Atlatic cooperation and prospects for development of economic relationships.

Speaking on Azerbaijan’s aspiration for proximity with the European Union and NATO Aliyev thanked Lithuania for support in this sphere. "I hope we will
go on one way to create the common future," the Azerbaijani leader said. During the meeting Aliyev invited Adamkus to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan.

Vilnus will host a summit of the heads of state of Baltic and South Caucasus countries in Vilnus in 2006. It is planned to hold consultations in Brussels in December with respect to hold preparations for the summit at a would-be meeting of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia under the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of NATO member-countries and partners.
