“The Ukrainian citizens, who have been recently detained at Baku airport, were sent back to Ukraine on Sunday morning,” Igor Kizima, Ukraine’s charge d’affaires in Azerbaijan, told Trend.

Ukraine’s Consul in Azerbaijan and representatives of the Ukrainian airlines were in attendance, the diplomat said.

According to Kizima, this time Azerbaijan acted within the frames of the international conventions. Immediately after detention of the Ukrainian citizens at Baku airport they were allowed to meet with Ukraine’s Consul in Azerbaijan, served supper and room for relaxation until the next flight to Ukraine. In the end they were sent back to Ukraine.

An only reason for non-permission of the Ukrainian citizens to Azerbaijan was their announcement as persona-non-grata, the diplomat underlined.

On the eve of the parliamentary elections Sergey Taran, the Director of the International Democracy Institute of Kiev and several Ukrainian citizens, active members of Pora movement, flew to Baku at the invitation of the local opposition parties, while the Azerbaijani authorities did not allow them to enter the country.
