Azeri CEC performs all tasks

The Azerbaijani Central Election Committee (CEC) performed all tasks imposed on the parliamentary elections,” Mazahir Panahov, the chairman of the CEC, said to a news conference on the results of the parliamentary elections on Monday, Trend reports.

According to Panahov, 46.8% of citizens participated in the voting. The CEC received the results of the elections from 123 constitutes, while 3 constitutes did not manage to send the data due to technical problems.

Touching upon the critic of international observers, Panahov noted that their goal was to reveal and publicize errors. Therefore, the critic should be accepted normally.

As to difference between official data and the results of the exit poll, conducted by the U.S.

PA Consulting, Panahov stressed that the results coincided by 85%. “In this case how people can say that the elections were held incorrectly? The elections were held in accordance with democratic principles, in conditions of equality for all candidates,” he stressed. Speaking about the meeting with Vladimir Rushaylo, the head of the CIS observation mission, Panahov reported that Rushaylo appreciated the elections highly.

Touching upon the statements of some international organizations on necessity of cancellation of the results on some constitutes and holding a repeated voting, Panahov underlined that the next parliamentary elections would be held in the country in 2010.

The head of the CEC reported that transformation of protocols to the CEC would be over on Tuesday and the results would be sent to the Constitution Court. The latter sue to confirm the candidacy of winners in 20 days.
