Special commission to set up investigation into last opposition rally

A special commission will set investigation into the 26 November rally, according to a resolution achieved in a meeting of Azadlyg bloc and National Unity Movement with the law-defense organizations on Wednesday.

Sahib Mammadov, a law-defender, has been appointed the head of the special commission. The commission includes experts on law and human watchdogs.

Addressing to the meeting Novella Jafaroglu, a law-defenders, said that hey had made an appeal to the Interior Minister, Ramil Usubov, in connection with the arrest of 17 protestors during the rally.

Ali Karimli, the chairman of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan Party (PFAP, reformers), noted that after the rally last Saturday the opposition would set up new stage of protest against the elections frauds. “The statement by the US embassy, dated 26 November, is an unambiguous. However, I could not understand the statement made by the official of the US Department of State a few day later on the improvements in check-up of the poll,” Karimli said.
