Number of infections with hepatitis C virus increases in Azerbaijan's southern region

The number of newly infected with hepatitis C virus has increased in the southern region of Azerbaijan, deputy chief physician of the Central Hospital of Lankaran Abulfat Mammadov told Trend News.

The number of newly infected with hepatitis C virus has increased in the southern region of Azerbaijan, deputy chief physician of the Central Hospital of Lankaran Abulfat Mammadov told Trend .

According to Mammadov, in 2009, 37 carriers of the hepatitis C virus were identified in the region, which is 15 people more than 2008. Mammadov explained growth percent with increase in detection rates. In January 2010 one fact of infection with hepatitis C was noticed.

Stressing that 41 patients with hepatitis B were identified in 2009, Mammadov said that last year any patient infected with hepatitis A was not revealed in the region.

According to the deputy chief physician, the majority of patients with hepatitis are drug addicts.
