Compensation set by the European Court of Human Rights has been transferred to the account of the former Chief Editor Eynulla Fatullayev's account, Azerbaijan's Ombudsman Office said.

Former Chief Editor of the Daily Azerbaijan and Real Azerbaijan newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev's father Emin Fatullayev complained to Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova that funds have not yet been transferred to the account opened in the International Bank under his name.

Ombudsman appealed to the authorized representative of the Azerbaijani Republic under the European Court of Human Rights Chingiz Askerov to clarify the circumstances.

It was found that the compensation, in accordance with the set rules, was transferred to the account in the International Bank mentioned in Fatullayev's case on Dec.22 last year.

The European Court announced its decision regarding Fattulayev's appeal on its website on April 22, demanding the journalist's immediate release. According to the decision, Azerbaijani government must pay compensation worth 28,000 euro.

Fatullayev was arrested on April 20, 2007 and was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison. He was accused of inciting terrorism and ethnic hatred, as well as tax evasion.

In Dec. 2009, about 0.223 grams of heroin was found in Fatullayev's shoes and jacket. A criminal case was filed under Article 234.1, pertaining to illegal purchase or storage narcotics or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding necessary for personal consumption without the intent to sell, of the Criminal Code. The Garadag District Court had sentenced Fatullayev to 2.5 years.
