Event within Justice for Khojaly campaign held in Aktau (PHOTO)

Azerbaijani students studying in the Kazakh city of Aktau held an event within the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign on Feb. 23, the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Aktau said.

Azerbaijani students studying in the Kazakh city of Aktau held an event within the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign on Feb. 23, the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Aktau said.

The leadership of the Azerbaijani national-cultural society Dostlug (Friendship), functioning in the Mangystau region, and representatives of local media, attended the event, which was sponsored by the consulate.

A photo exhibition showing the Khojaly tragedy, the book, "Truth about Karabakh," published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and books about bloody policy pursued by Armenians against Azerbaijanis for many years were demonstrated. The students presented badges with the logo of "Justice for Khojaly" to participants.

A clip in the style of rap called "Justice for Khojaly" was also demonstrated. The memory of the Khojaly victims was observed by a minute of silence.

Then, Azerbaijani Consul General in Aktau Rashad Mammadov provided detailed information about the genocide of the peaceful Azerbaijani population of Khojaly committed by Armenian armed forces 19 years ago. He spoke about the policy of genocide carried out by Armenians against our people during the last 200 years.

The consul general informed that the Justice for Khojaly campaign has been conducted since February 2009 at the initiative of the general coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue of the OIC Youth Forum, the vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.

He also explained the importance of political evaluation of the Khojaly genocide by the world countries leaders. Speaking about the measures undertaken by President Aliyev to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mammadov informed the participants that Armenia has an nonconstructive position on this issue.

Several students made a speech. They said that the genocide was a crime against humanity.

They emphasized the importance of informing the Kazakh youth about the real details on this issue.

Then, the participants were informed about the website www.justiceforkhojaly.org.

The film about Khojaly tragedy was demonstrated.

The students decided to establish a coordinating group in the western regions of Kazakhstan to support the "Justice for Khojaly" campaign conducted worldwide. Ali Aliabbasov was appointed the head of the coordination group.

The areas of the group's activity were determined. Signatures were collected to appeal to the heads of international organizations, heads of the countries, and parliaments of the world to recognize the Khojaly genocide as a crime against humanity.
