Azerbaijan and the IAEA start new joint project, Adil Garibov, director of the Institute of radiation problems of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), told Trend on Tuesday.

The project is called "Formation of laboratory for radiation technology processes" and covers 2012-2013. Under the project dosimetric and microbiological laboratory will be created in Azerbaijan.

"The laboratory will measure level of irradiation of different facilities, and it will be determined which biological changes occur in objects subject to irradiation, whether microbes are eradicated," Mr Garibov said.

He said the laboratory building will be ready in the first half of 2013. Its equipment will be delivered in the second half of 2013. The laboratory will be commissioned in 2014.

Implementation of the IEAE project "Basis for construction of research nuclear reactor in Azerbaijan" was extended for another 2 years on Azerbaijani side's initiative, Mr Garibov said.

He said due to the fact that the work envisaged under the project has not yet been completed, it will continue also in 2012-2013.
