Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 22 /Trend, E. Aliyev /

The Baku Metro, in particular, the construction of new power plants, will have a positive impact on the seismic situation in the Azerbaijani capital, the head of the International Relations and Information Department of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, Jahangir Gojayev told journalists on Tuesday.

According to him, the soil in the construction area is being studied before the start of construction of subway, pipeline transport infrastructure and other underground and above-ground facilities.

These works also include geological evaluation and the necessary seismic calculations.

The construction of new subway lines will not negatively affect the situation, but on the contrary, it will significantly improve the seismic resistance of land above the new metro lines, Gojayev said.

At present, the length of the Baku Metro's combined lines is 34.6 km. Today, the Baku Metro has two lines. In the future, the number of subway lines will be increased to five, the length will reach 119 km, and there will be 76 stations.

The Baku Metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations.
