By Ilhame Isabalayeva - Trend: Deputy Director of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Program Division, Dr. Christian Salazar Volkmann will represent the organization at the 4th Islamic Conference of Ministers in charge of Childhood to be held in Baku on November 11-12, UNICEF representative office in Azerbaijan told Trend on November 8.
The conference 'Children of the Islamic World and Problems of Urbanization', which is hosted on the ISESCO's initiative in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is held under the patronage of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev.
Dr. Salazar heads the UNICEF departments in the sphere of child protection, education, HIV-AIDS, as well as directs humanitarian actions and programs of the organization in emergency situations.
During a visit to Baku, he will also take part in a series of meetings with partners of UNICEF and will visit Shirvan district of Azerbaijan to review the work of the organization on issues of HIV and young people.
The decision on the establishment of the Islamic Conference of Ministers in charge of Childhood was taken at the OIC Summit in Malaysia in September 2003. The declaration of the summit imposed the task on the OIC and ISESCO, jointly with UNICEF, through the Resolution on Child Care and Protection in the Islamic World, to organize the First Islamic Conference of Ministers in charge of Childhood.
