Sixteen landmines defused in Azerbaijan

Last month some 3,623,150 square meters of land was inspected and cleared of landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) told Trend on Dec. 6.

Some 300 UXOs, 14 anti-tank mines and two anti-personnel mines were defused in Azerbaijan, according to the ANAMA.

The operations for clearing of land from mines included 484 mine-detection specialists, 118 specialists from assistant personnel, six mechanical mine clearing machines and 36 mine-detection dogs.

Some 243,833,346 square meters of land has been cleared of mines so far and the number of defused landmines and UXOs amounted to 687,750.

ANAMA continues its operations in the Aghdam, Aghjabadi, Aghstafa, Fuzuli, Goranboy, Ganja, Lankaran and Tartar districts as well as in the Guzdak settlement of Baku city's Garadagh district.
