The death rate at Azerbaijan's detention facilities decreased last year to 23 percent compared with the figures for 2012, according to Cabinet of Ministers report for 2013, which was submitted to the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan.
In 2012 there were 133 deaths, while 102 deaths were recorded in 2013, according to the report.
For inmates, deaths from tuberculosis also decreased by over 33 percent.
In 2012 this figure was 26, while in 2013, it was 16.
Overall 16,586 prison inmates were examined last year at the main medical department of Azerbaijani Justice Ministry.
