Institute of Information Technologies (IIT) of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) increased the data rate of the AzScienceNet scientific computer network up to 250 megabits per second, IIT reported Sept. 8.

The growth amounted to 19 percent, compared to the beginning of the year. At present, some 32 of 35 institutes of ANAS are connected to the AzScienceNet network. Connection of the other organizations (Institute of Chemistry of Additives, National Museum of History of Azerbaijan and the Institute of Dendrology) is expected before the end of the year.

IIT identified the main prospective directions to be implemented within the AzScienceNet network. These include the expansion of infrastructure and improvement of the network based on the latest technologies, the deployment of Wi-Fi access points, provision of hosting services based on the AzSciencenet, "cloud" computing, educational roaming services (EduRoam), as well as empowering the use of DATA-center resources of the institute and issues of international cooperation.

The monitoring and analysis of information security of the research network by AzScienceCERT service is also provided. Monitoring and analysis results will be available to the general public.

Works on the reconstruction of the AzSciencenet network in the Ganja division of ANAS are underway in order to create a distance education system, which will allow doctoral students and candidates of scientific and educational institutions of Ganja city to lecture on information service remotely.
