Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva attended a groundbreaking ceremony of an animal shelter in Garadagh district, Baku Oct. 9.
Aliyeva viewed the master plan of the shelter, a project of International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA).
The shelter's plan envisages accomodation for nearly 5,000 animals, in particular dogs and cats. The facility will also be used to examine and treat other animals, such as horses, and even birds.
Aliyeva laid a foundation stone for the facility.
The shelter will help reduce the number of abandoned and stray animals in Baku and the surrounding areas and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
