By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

The Republican Seismological Center of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences purchased three bottom seismographs, to be installed at the Umid, Bahar and Chirag fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, the center told Trend.

"The bottom seismographs will be installed after the Azerbaijani government makes a relevant decision," the center said.

"A preliminary agreement on seismograph installation has been already reached with SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan)," the center said.

Seismographs will be installed by the specialists of the U.S Kinemetrics company, which is a seismic equipment supplier. The center plans to improve the quality of marine seismic research in the long-term.

Currently, there are 35 seismic stations operating in the territory of Azerbaijan. All stations are connected to the satellite system.

A headend is located on the territory of the academy in Baku. It regularly obtains the information from the vibration sensors installed in seismically active areas of the country through a satellite in real time. After data processing, the system informs about the exact area of the earthquake, time and power.
