The information on the fire in a mosque in Baku, which occurred earlier on Nov. 26, was made public.

The State Fire Control Service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergency Situations received an alert about a fire outbreakk in a mosque in the Garachukhur settlement of Baku's Surakhani district on Nov.26 at 02:38 (UTC/GMT +4 hours).

Around five square meters of carpet burned as a result of the fire in the mosque with a total area of 300 square meters, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergency Situations told Trend.

Three fire brigades were sent to the site and the fire was extinguished shortly after. The fact is under investigation.

The akhoond (a person who leads prayers in a mosque) of the Garachukhur mosque told the media that two unknown persons broke the glass, got inside and intentionally set fire in the mosque. He added that they also used force against the watchman of the mosque.

The watchman of the mosque has given testimony of the incident, confirming that two unknown people set fire in the mosque, Azerbaijani Interior Ministry told Trend.
