Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 11

By Ilkin Izzet - Trend:

Everyone knows what Islam gave the world and mankind, but, unfortunately, most of those values are today propagandized under different names, Head of the Public and Political Issues Department of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov said.

Hasanov made the remarks Dec. 11 in Baku speaking at an international conference titled "Media of Turkey and Azerbaijan: Historical parallels and the shift from traditional to online media."

He said that Islamic states are presented as countries supporting terrorism, and not capable of establishing order within themselves and with each other.

"In this regard, journalists have important tasks," Hasanov stressed.

He noted with regret that people are still receiving information about the developments in the Muslim world from CNN, BBC and other such transnational global media organizations.

"However, after studying the situation, it becomes clear that there is a serious discrepancy between the developments in these countries and the information disseminated about them in the world," Hasanov noted.

He said it turns out that the details and even sometimes the main points related to the developments are not covered.

"Are the developments in Syria, Egypt, Iran, occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region, Gaza, Yemen, Tunisia and other Muslim countries as such as they are presented by these transnational media?

"Do all the world countries think as the journalists of these structures do? Of course not," Hasanov said. "However, despite the fact that the representatives of our media, unlike the journalists in some countries, carry out unbiased activity, they sometimes can not be heard outside the country."

Hasanov said this leads to the emergence of preconceived opinion in the world about Muslim countries and peoples.

"These countries and peoples are presented as a source of terrorism, as wild, uncivilized people," Hasanov added.

Hasanov further said that speaking earlier in Iran at a meeting of the information and communication ministers from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) he informed about the creation of the Union of Journalists of the Islamic Countries in Azerbaijan.

He said this initiative as well as the proposal to hold in Baku the constituent congress of this organization, were supported and appreciated by over 55 countries around the world.
