Individuals worried about Azerbaijan's strengthening, and a number of organizations that have come under the influence of the Armenian lobby, are trying to carry out a campaign to discredit the country as they did during the Eurovision-2012, Azerbaijani MP Ali Huseynov told Trend April 20.

He said that Azerbaijan has become a strong country in the international arena.

"It independently implements large-scale international projects," he said.

Huseynov said that there are forces envious of this fact that are conducting a campaign on the eve of the first European Games in Baku to discredit the country and attempt to harm the reputation of Azerbaijan.

The MP said that all these attempts, as earlier, will be unsuccessful.

"Azerbaijan has become accustomed to such actions," he said. "While taking a decision to hold the European Games in the country, Azerbaijan took into account this factor."

The MP is sure that the European Games will be held in Azerbaijan at a high level.

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent, which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
