Of 53 families that were previously living in a burned multi-story building in Baku's Binagadi district, 45 have been rendered one-time financial assistance worth 1,000 Azerbaijani manats, head of Binagadi District Executive Power Khaleddin Isgandarov told reporters May 20.

The residents of the building refused from accommodation in nearby boarding houses and expressed intention to live in rented apartments, according to Isgandarov.

The residents of the mentioned building can rent apartments wherever they want, according to the decision of the state commission on investigating the causes of the fire. The state has undertaken all the expenses for rental housing.

The death toll as a result of the fire that broke out in a residential building in Baku May 19 has increased to 15 people.

Azerbaijani Health Ministry told Trend May 19 that currently, 14 out of 34 hospitalized people are in the hospitals of the capital.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigation Department on Grave Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan upon the fact of fire outbreak on the Articles 225.2 (violation of fire safety rules), 308.2 (abuse of power) and 314.2 (negligence) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

The law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan have detained a suspect in the Baku building fire outbreak investigation.

The suspect is the head of the Global Construction, Miryusif Mahmudov, who is accused of using low-quality cladding materials during the cladding of the building.
