A trial on the case of the former employee of the "Zerkalo" (Mirror) newspaper Rauf Mirkadyrov was held at the Baku Court of Heinous Crimes December 23.

A closed trial was chaired by Judge Alisultan Osmanov, Mirkadyrov's lawyer Fuad Aghayev told Trend Dec. 23.
Lawyer Aghayev called for his client's acquittal.

At the previous session, the public prosecutor called for the seven year-imprisonment.

However, proceeding from the article of the Criminal Code, envisaging a more lenient punishment, the prosecutor called for commuting the sentence.

The investigation was held by the National Security Ministry.

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's office said earlier that Mirkadyrov was arrested in Turkey on April 19, 2014. Afterwards, he was deported to Azerbaijan. Mirkadyrov has been suspected of collaborating with the Armenian special services since April 2008, holding several meetings in Armenia, Georgia and Turkey.

He was also spreading the information about the political and military situation, including state secrets, along with photos and schemes for using against Azerbaijan.
