Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.21
By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:
The most important thing is that the anthem of Azerbaijan was performed at the National Gymnastics Arena, Vice-President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) Altay Hasanov said in an interview with Trend Feb. 21.
He was commenting on the results of the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics in Baku.
"Our anthem fits this arena very well," said the AGF vice-president. "Our next gymnastics festival was a success and I am grateful to the first lady, President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation Mehriban Aliyeva," he said.
"We thank to all our fans, the Organizing Committee and all those who worked tirelessly to make this day this good. We also thank to the media representatives for a great coverage of the event," Hasanov added.
The Organizing Committee did its best and everyone saw that the first-ever World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics in our history was held at the highest level, according to the AGF vice-president.
"Both we and the athletes were preparing diligently. All the guests, athletes, coaches and sports officials are very satisfied with the organizational level [of the event]," said Hasanov.
"I would like to note that we are very satisfied as well that we have coped with the organization and at the same time, achieved results," he said. "Naturally, we expected good results from Oleg Stepko."
The AGF vice-president noted that bars are Stepko's major tools and he succeeded to grab the gold medal. He in particular emphasized good performance of Marina Nekrasova.
Hasanov went on to say that the first day of the competitions was quite difficult.
"Our fans so actively cheer for our athletes that sometimes it is difficult for them to perform," said the AGF vice-president. "God willing, we will have even more victories ahead."
"Performing at home is easy, but requires high responsibility. Therefore, Stepko wasn't doing very well on the first day. However, then he braced himself up, performed well and even won three medals."
Hasanov voiced his satisfaction with the results.
"The preparatory period is underway, major work and future victories are ahead," said Hasanov. "I hope that Oleg Stepko will try and successfully perform at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. But I can't say anything about medals."
He stressed that those who couldn't win medals also tried very hard.
"It is fine. It is the beginning of the year and their success is ahead," said the AGF vice-president.
He highlighted the work done by the Organizing Committee.
"I don't want to praise the work done by the Organizing Committee a lot, but their successful work is obvious," said Hasanov.
"It is our first practice in the artistic gymnastics. We have experience in holding high-profile tournaments in rhythmic gymnastics. It is the first practice in artistic gymnastics which was successful."
"Given the feedback from the officials of the International Federation of Gymnastics, Technical Committee, I can say that they are satisfied," said the AGF vice-president. "Member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Gymnastics Morinari Watanabe praised the organizational level of the World Challenge Cup."
He added that all those who understand and feel it, see that the World Cup in Baku was organized at the World Championship level.
"We are very satisfied that we held the competitions at a high level. We are also satisfied with the results. In one word, the festival was a success," said Hasanov.
"Many thanks for your participation in our gymnastics festival and I congratulate everyone," he concluded.
