Azerbaijani gymnasts want to demonstrate the country’s beauties to spectators and athletes at the opening ceremony of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku, said Mariana Vasileva, head coach of the Azerbaijani national team.

“We would like to display Azerbaijan’s beauties at the opening ceremony,” Vasileva, who is also the director of the ceremony, told Trend July 21.

“Most of our guests have been to Baku before and have seen its beauties,” she added. “There are many places in Azerbaijan which are worth seeing.”

Vasileva said the composition to be performed during the opening ceremony is based on the ‘The Little Prince’ novella by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

“The composition will last 20 minutes and will be accompanied by Azerbaijani national music,” she said.

The FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics will take place in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku on July 22-24, giving a unique opportunity to watch the performances of eminent gymnasts from 17 countries two weeks prior to the Rio Olympics.

Twenty-six gymnasts and 9 teams will compete for medals in the all-around on the first two days of competitions. Apparatus finals will be held on the event’s last day.

A magnificent opening ceremony, directed by the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team Mariana Vasileva, will be held on July 22, followed by the traditional Gala on July 24, as part of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku.
